INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Sometimes depression or anxiety gets in the way of the close caring relationships you really want. These difficult emotions and moods, including fears, hurts and negative beliefs about your self, often are related to trauma you have experienced in your life.

At the beginning of therapy we discuss your situation and goals. Together we decide on the best modality or combination of modalities to use in your therapy. The overarching goal is to help you have emotional balance, to grow, and to be more open to the flow of experience in your life.

The following are the major therapeutic techniques of my practice:

EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS (EFIT)

"We adhere to the philosophy that relationships are at the core of human experience. Research indicates that secure attachment and emotionally fulfilling relationships are integral components of mental and physical health, and that emotionally focused interventions have the power to establish and recreate supportive bonds among individuals. " (http://www.iceeft.com/)

My therapeutic philosophy is that all people can maximize their potential through secure attachment and loving relationships, and to that end, I create a nurturing and supportive environment with my clients, always believing that growth and change is possible.

As an Emotional Focused therapist, I help you clear your emotional blocks to be more fully present in your life and in all your relationships. The safety that I create through deep empathy allows you to go into the traumatic and wounding experiences of your life that have led you to therapy. We form a partnership to go to those places that are hard to face alone. As you do this work, your self-compassion, ability to make healthy choices, and form lasting relationships grows - leading to greater self-acceptance and efficacy in the world.

EMDR

I am trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), a research-based, body-centered cognitive psychotherapy effective in resolving painful memories and psychological wounds related to emotional, physical, and sexual trauma or abuse. Trauma can ALSO include neglect or abandonment by parent, bullying, being fired, separation/divorce, car accidents, dog bites, and natural disasters, and many others.

EMDR sessions follow a specific protocol (using bi-lateral tapping) that allows you to gradually and safely process difficult memories. (During the time of COVID I am successfully using EMDR over Zoom by the client tapping on themselves.)

At the beginning of EMDR therapy, we work on establishing healthy emotional resources that help support and comfort you both in and outside of therapy.

Over time and as a result of EMDR, many people enjoy relief from disturbing symptoms of PTSD as well as intrusive thoughts, nightmares, anxiety attacks and depressed moods associated with past hurts.

JUNGIAN DREAM WORK

Dream imagery can unlock hidden aspects of self, such as hard to access emotions or even directions in your life. By working with your dream images, you will discover aspects of self that will add richness and new dimensions to your life. Dream imagery can also form the basis of an EMDR session, by using bi-lateral tapping on a disturbing dream image.
